Village Voice on the Air

Brilliant wrap up of the US Air Guitar Finals by the Village Voice.

My favorite excerpt: "...Björn Türoque, regarded within the discipline as a sort of Dan Marino/Jay-Z figure: fantastic ability, highly beloved, but never quite able to win the big one, and now prematurely retired..." Ah, so true.

The Winner of the 2006 US Air Guitar Championships is...

HOT LIXX HULAHAN!

It was a great night for air guitar, ladies and gents. Satanicide got the crowd warmed up, and they were on fire by the time Bjorn (as Ozzy Airborne) and his air band (The Air Conditioners) took the stage to do an anti-war, air demonstration to "War Pigs."

I'm too hungover to write more than this right now. But it was amazing. Hats (and sombreros) off to William Ocean, the NYC champ, who blew away the house in the compulsory round by doing a flip on to a can of soda, crushing it with his back. He then got on the shoulders of a fan and rode through the crowd. This was only to be bettered by Hot Lixx, who ran up to the balcony to hang from the rafters and give a private, insane performance to the judges (including Sonyk-Rok, Vice founder Gavin McInnes and Jason Jones from the Daily show).

More video/photos/pix to come.

Here's a really great wrap up and amazing slide show from GOTHAMIST

Pass me the advil...Over and out...

US AIR GUITAR CHAMPIONSHIPS TONIGHT & Danny Devito Rips Off C-Diddy!

This is it people. Tonight is the US Air Guitar Championship at the Bowery Ballroom. Sold Out. Totally.

I heard tix were going on Craig's List for $75. A small price to pay, really.

Leading contenders include defending champ, The Rockness Monster, as well as NY champ William Ocean. Could be a surprise upset led by the collegiate champ, Jace Bartet. At this point, it's anyone's game.

In other news, Danny Devito (yeah, the diminutive bald dude from TV's Taxi) ripped off C-Diddy to promote his new TV show. As I told C-Diddy, you know you've arrived when Devito is ripping off your schtick.

Video and Photos from Rockefeller Center Screenings

After one night of getting nearly rained out, I turned up to watch Air Guitar Nation screened on the side of Rockefeller Center. It was a pretty amazing site to see. I sat next to C-Diddy and drank in the sights and sounds of the movie with some other diehard fans.

There's a little movie of the movie below. It should provide a vague idea of how insanely cool it looked on the side of the building. It was fucking massive.

Next screening is at SILVERDOCS in Washington DC, June 16.
